PO Box Assignments

UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS
All Undergraduate Students living in campus housing are assigned use of a mailbox. Assignment notifications, mailbox combinations and general instructions can be found at the myRutgers Portal. Students (with the exception of Rockoff Hall and Easton Avenue Apartments) will be assigned a mailbox at the campus post office located on the same campus as their housing. Students who reside in Rockoff Hall or Easton Avenue Apartments will use mailboxes located in the building lobbies. Non-resident students will no longer be assigned mailboxes. Should you need to change your mailbox assignment please contact the MDS main office.

Addresses vary across the campuses, because the street address contains a reference to your chosen campus. The Incoming Mail & Packages section contains specific examples.

PO Boxes are assigned for PERSONAL MAIL use only. Students are not allowed to operate a business from their assigned Rutges mail-box. University Mail Services reserves the right to hold and/or return any mail that appears to be addressed to a business.

Remember your Campus Mail-Box may be shared with another student:

  • Please be courteous and respecful.
  • Any mail addressed to your box-mate should be left in the box.
  • Unaddressed campus mail may be accepted by any box holder.
  • Mail tampering is a Federal Offense and perpetrators will be prosecuted.

GRADUATE STUDENTS
Graduate students living in campus housing are entitled to use a mail-box on the campus where they reside. Bring proof of residency to the Post Office on this campus for the assignment of a mail-box.

Summer Mail Procedures

UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS
BUSCH CAMPUS POST OFFICE & RUTGERS CAMPUS POST OFFICE
Shortly after graduation, University Mail Services begins forwarding mail to the student's address of record, unless notified by the student of his/her intent to retain use of his/her assigned mail-box throughout the summer months. Normally, signs are posted during late Spring to remind students that they have until the day after graduation to contact his/her Post Office to retain use of their assigned mail-box throughout the summer months.

Students taking summer courses or those that are residing in the area are entitled to mail-box assignments. Check with the Head Clerk at the nearest Post Office for instructions or e-mail summermail@aps.rutgers.edu to request this service. Information regarding the use of mail-boxes is also included in the Summer Session catalogs.

LIVINGSTON POST OFFICE
Students who have a mailbox assignment at LPO can continue to have their mail delivered during the summer but they will be required to pick up their mail and packages at the Busch Post Office.

To request a summer mail box please e-mail summermail@aps.rutgers.edu. Please include your LPO mailbox number in this request. You will then be notified of your temporary mailbox assignment and the combination to that mailbox.

DOUGLASS POST OFFICE
The DPO will close for the summer beginning May 28, 2010. All students who have a mailbox assignment at DPO can continue to have their mail delivered during the summer but they will be required to pick up their mail and packages at the Cook Post Office.

To request a summer mail box please e-mail summermail@aps.rutgers.edu. Please include your DPO mailbox number in this request. You will then be notified of your temporary mailbox assignment and the combination to that mailbox.

COOK POST OFFICE
Students who have a mailbox assignment at CPO can continue to have their mail delivered during the summer.

To request a summer mailbox please e-mail summermail@aps.rutgers.edu. Please include your CPO mailbox number in this request.

GRADUATE STUDENTS
All graduate students receiving mail in student mailboxes will continue to do so over the summer unless you notify Mail and Document Services to request that we cancel this service. Graduates with mailboxes at DPO or LPO will be notified of their new temporary mail address at CPO or BPO. For further info contact summermail@aps.rutgers.edu.

Incoming Mail

Mail and packages are received in the morning Monday - Friday from the US Post Office. These mail pieces are sorted and boxed throughout the workday -- the group strives to box ALL mail before the end of the workday.

Note: For your security, Campus Post Office staff will not give any information regarding your mail via the telephone. You must appear in person with the proper identification at the appropriate Campus Post Office to receive information regarding your mail.

Package Info

When packages or other items requiring special handling are received at a Campus Post Office, a Package Slip is completed by a postal employee and placed in the student's mail-box to notify him/her to stop at the service window to pickup the package. Package slips are boxed the same day the package is received.

If you do not pickup your item after 10 working days, a second notice is placed in your box. Items not picked up after 10 working days of releasing the second notice will be returned to the sender.

You may pickup the package at your Campus Post Office window during posted business hours. A picture ID and the Package Slip are required to pickup the item.

Students who reside Cook Campus will pick-up their packages from a parcel locker located in the Cook Post Office.

Students who reside in Rockoff Hall will pick-up their packages in the Pennrose Management Office.
